The Treaty on the Non‐Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) was signed on the First Day of July 1968 by the main “Nuclear Powers”: the USA, the USSR, and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and was joined by other nation states, one of them being the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The declared intention of this treaty was “to achieve at the earliest possible date the cessation of the nuclear arms race and to undertake effective measures in the direction of nuclear disarmament”. This was at the time when the “Cold War” between the main nuclear powers the USA and the USSR began to become “warmer” (less hostile) and Mankind seemed to be moving towards a more “peaceful” world.
This movement towards a more peaceful world had been abruptly interrupted at the start of this century by the American wars of aggression against Afghanistan and Iraq.
Neither of these wars had valid legal reasons, and both were justified by false arguments and political demagogy.
The Organization of the United Nations has failed to prevent these wars, to stop these wars, to punish the aggressors (the USA and its accomplices) and to force the aggressors to pay reparations to the victim countries. This failure by the UN to preserve peace amounts to complicity with the American wars of aggression. Nor have any of the member states taken any effective steps to prevent or stop these wars of aggression, and some have joined the USA in their criminal acts.
Today the USA and its accomplices are continuing with their acts of aggression against the people of Asia and Africa and are actively preparing for a war against Iran.
Article X 1 of the Treaty on the Non‐Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons provides possibility for withdrawal from the treaty of a state whose “interests” have been “jeopardized”, as follows:
“Each Party shall in exercising its national sovereignty have the right to withdraw from the Treaty if it decides that extraordinary events, related to the subject matter of this Treaty, have jeopardized the supreme interests of its country. It shall give notice of such withdrawal to all other Parties to the Treaty and to the United Nations Security Council three months in advance. Such notice shall include a statement of the extraordinary events it regards as having jeopardized its supreme interests.”
And today Iran is a state whose interests are in grave jeopardy of being attacked by the USA and its allies, and the USA are using the treaty as a pretext for hostile acts (sanctions, etc) against Iran while preparing for a full scale war of aggression.
There is no benefit for Iran to remain a member of the NPT. On the contrary by remaining its member Iran gives support for the proposition that the USA has right to develop and use any weapons and wage any wars of aggression with impunity, while Iran and other smaller nations have no right to defend themselves against American aggression. By withdrawing from the treaty Iran will assert its sovereign right to defend itself against American aggression by any weapons.
To withdraw from the treaty Iran needs to give a three months notice with a statement of reasons for the withdrawal. A specimen of such notice follows:
To the Parties to the Treaty on the Non‐Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons
and to the United Nations Security Council
